WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA — Team Zimbabwe delivered a powerful performance on the continental stage, securing a commendable 4th place overall at the 2026 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN), held at the Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek, Namibia.
A total of 24 Zimbabwean riders lined up on the gates, competing across 8 different classes against 11 participating African nations.
The highlight of the weekend came in the form of two individual continental gold medals, with Riley Rocher and Doug Mellor crowning themselves African Champions in their respective divisions.
Continental Titles for Rocher & Mellor
In the flagship MX2 Class, 16-year-old sensation Riley Rocher put on a masterclass over the two days of competition. Dominating his heats with precision and blistering speed, Rocher clinched 1st overall to take the MX2 crown. This victory marks back-to-back continental titles for Rocher, who won the 125cc African Championship in 2025.
In the Masters Class, seasoned racer Doug Mellor produced a faultless display of stamina and tactical riding. Mellor fended off tough competition from host nation Namibia and South Africa to cross the line 1st overall, bringing home Zimbabwe’s second gold medal of the weekend.
Standout Performances Across the Classes
Points were hard-fought across all 8 classes on the dusty, dry terrain in Windhoek. Notable performances across the squad included:
- Oneill Shamuyarira (50cc Class): Fought hard in a stacked field of junior riders to finish an impressive 4th overall.
- Victor Nyamupfukudza (85cc Class): Showed incredible grit through three demanding heats to earn 4th overall.
- Karl Van As (125cc Class): Delivered a consistent weekend of racing against top talent to capture 5th overall.
- Ashley Thixton (MX1 Class): Battled in the premier division to seal 6th overall.

- Uganda – 125 pts
- Zimbabwe – 95 pts
